Through the Tunnel
Plot
This story is all about an eleven years old English boy named Jerry who lived with his widow mother. Jerry and his mother go to the beach mostly for vacation. One morning of their holiday, they went to the beach to sunbath and swim. He viewed a group of local boys as they swim and play out by a huge rock and he missed to go be with the boys, but he also had an idea not to leave his mother alone of vacation. Jerry was really curious to find out where the boys used to hide as they stay under water for a long time. He finally notices that they are swimming into the tunnel and not coming up for a certain time. Jerry knew at first that he would not be able to swim throughout the tunnel without taking a breath and he had nose bleeds at night. So, Jerry convinced his mother to buy him goggles, which he needed to see where the tunnel begins and to prevent salty water to split in his eyes. He trained for the next few days and worked on holding his breathe. Finally on the last day before they are to leave, Jerry decided that it was the time to show what he was made of.  He eventually swam through the tunnel, proving to himself what he is capable of.

Characters
Jerry
Jerry is an eleven-year old English boy on vacation with his mother on a beach they have frequented in the past. Jerry's mother is a widow and is sometimes overprotective, sometimes not protective enough, of her son. Jerry attempts to make friends with some older boys on the beach, but they ignore him after discovering he is childish. Jerry is jealous of the older boys-he watches them as they swim through a rock in which there is a narrow underwater gap. In an attempt to become equal to them, he begins to persistently practice holding his breath so that he too may swim through the rock
